Over the past couple of years this website has effectively been sitting dormant. It has simply served as a portal for clients to view my portfolio and little else. I mean 3 blog posts in 2 years, it's piss poor. That changes going forward. Over the next few weeks this site is going to go through a bit of an overhaul, or at the very least the blog section is.
For a long time I have been inspired by the Australian collective Zen Garage. I have often been inspired by the way that those guys have managed to elude the kind of compartmentalisation or even stereotyping that most people involved in the car world have to deal with. Sure, modified cars are at the centre of their aesthetic, but they straddle so many touchstones of modern culture. Games, design, art, photography, clothing and them girls.
One of my favourite follows on Instagram is John Pangilinan. Accurately described as a modern day renaissance man on a recent Car Stories podcast, John is someone whose work I have long admired. In a similar vein to the ZEN guys John manages to straddle a broad variety of genres. Food, automotive, street style, working with brands and contributing for great brands like Fatlace, The Hundreds and Carryology. I was fortunate enough to interview John for Fueltopia couple of years ago following one of his many SEMA builds for Hyundai (an interview that was unfortunately lost in the migration of platforms), but since then I have kept a close eye on his work.
I could go on and on and on about people that I look up to, admire and are a constant source of inspiration, but what does this mean for me (and as a result you the reader)? Well, for me it's time to branch out and be more productive. Not only does that mean doing things here on my own blog, but doing more on Fueltopia as well. The aim is that once the 2017 motorsport season kicks back into gear, I'm going to do a monthly "retrospective" style post looking back at the events of the preceding month. Away from Fueltopia I'm looking to do more on this blog away from motorsports. Whether that's tech, games, art, street style, sneakers, travel or whatever. Basically the shit that ain't work that I enjoy. You might read it, you might not, but I'm tired of pigeonholing myself as just a motorsport photographer guy. The aim here is to do a post a week where possible. Reviews, product shoots, whatever. I'm aiming to get shit out there, and without sounding too 2003 there's a possibility for multimedia content.
One of my first blog posts hopefully coming this week will be my review of the Ubisoft game Ghost Recon Wildlands. Keep an eye for that soon. In the meantime enjoy your week.
